Wonton Soup

Whenever I travel to China the first thing I seek out is wonton soup. It’s the perfect light and mild treat to welcome you to the far east.

This recipe is a delicious and unique soup that you’ll want to make over and over.

Its quick and easy. A good one to add to your repertoire.

In every good Asian market you’ll find frozen shrimp Wontons.

1 box of Shrimp Wontons (50 count)

Broth:

In a large sauce pan:

6 cups chicken broth

1 tablespoon sweet soy sauce

1 teaspoon fish sauce

6-8 drops Spicy Sesame oil

White pepper

In a small pan:

Heat 2 tablespoons sesame oil

Add

3 cloves garlic minced

2 teaspoons minced ginger

Swirl the garlic and ginger in the hot sesame oil. Be mindful not to burn the garlic.

Sauté for about 2 minutes to flavor the oil.

Strain the oil catching the garlic and ginger in a small tea strainer.

Add just the flavored oil to broth.

In a separate med sized pot

 Boil water.

Add shrimp wontons and cook until they float. About 2-3 minutes.

Remove floating wontons from the water and place in a  medium sized bowl.

Toss the wontons with a bit of sesame oil so they don’t stick together.

Set aside.

Clean and quarter Bok Choy stalks.

Place 3 Bok Choy stalks and 5 cooked wontons in the bottom of each individual bowl.

Cover with broth and serve.

Repeat with each serving.

Recipe makes 4 servings.

Enjoy!!
